A Humorous Motivational Speaker Keeps His Audience Smiling

A motivational speaker is a person who is able to motivate someone into doing something. In practical life, a person interacts with numerous other persons, a percent of whom try to influence him with their ideas and thrust their point of view upon him. Generally, ninety five percent of these people do not succeed, because every individual has his/her own individuality which resists changes in his thought process. The five percent of those who manage to change the thought process of an individual are the motivational speakers. Now, we proceed to study, what differentiates this five percent from the ninety five percent.

Among the various qualities of a speaker which make him a motivational speaker, humor is one very essential trait. But being a humorous motivational speaker is not easy. You could be marked off as 'not serious about his convictions' kind. So the blend of humor and seriousness in conveying his thoughts is what makes up a humorous motivational speaker. Imagine a speaker asked to deliver a lecture for one hour. An audience however enthusiastic it may be will listen intently for the first five minutes, then listen with bored reluctance for the next five minutes and completely ignore the speech for the rest of the hour. This is the point where a humorous motivational speaker has the ability to keep people engrossed in his speech. No audience listens to a monotonous drone, however interesting it may be. A good speech always contains its quota of jest and mirth. A motivational speaker, if he has to convince people to believe his convictions, first has to make the audience listen to his speech with interest. This can be achieved only by a humorous motivational speaker. A humorous motivational speaker keeps his audience smiling and chuckling during the entire span of his speech.

Let us now examine the qualities of a humorous motivational speaker. Quoting a relevant example might give better insight into the ability of a humorous motivational speaker. Consider a speaker asked to speak on the role of self-confidence in a person's success. A normal speaker would start off by saying, "Self-Confidence, is like a double edged sword. It is deadly if used carefully, but ends up destroying you, if it gets out of hand". He then goes on about the importance of self-confidence, etc. A humorous motivational speaker, speaking on the same lines would begin his speech saying, "Self-Confidence is a double edged sword. Swing it carefully; it would rip your opponents dress, exposing his underpants. Swing it casually; it would rip out your underpants". In the former case, the audience would just listen with the normal pensive attitude. The latter would make them sit up in their seats and chuckle. Spicing up a speech with a humorous idiom here and there is the secret of winning the audience. A humorous motivational speaker does this to perfection. While not deviating from the topic, he deftly puts in a couple of anecdotes which bring back the drifting audience.

Any person in the audience, bored with the speech, upon hearing a jest, would expectantly listen for the next few minutes hoping for another joke. A humorous motivational speaker puts in such witty statements at regular intervals, and any uninterested listener would find himself listening to the complete speech. The main advantage of a humorous motivational speaker is that he gains the favor of the audience, hence his ideas are also respected and the audience would be drawn towards believing in his convictions. On the whole, a humorous motivational speaker tastes more success than a non-humorous one.
